Construct Scenarios

Work Package 2: Offsetting Scenarios

CIRAD is responsible for WP with Claude Garcia in the role of leader.Les biodiversity scenarios for Tridom landscape will be designed using the participatory modeling approach (ComMod, Companion Modeling). Three tasks were defined:

Task 2.1. Creating the modelling platform

We are currently designing a conceptual integrated model with stakeholders and through an iterative process, incorporating elements of WP1, but also CoForTips. This model will be translated into a role playing game (RPG) and tested with stakeholders for validation. The model is adaptive, allowing the research team to address new challenges arising from the results of WP1.

Task 2.2. Scenarios identification

Through group workshops and on the basis of knowledge generated by the WP1, we will outline scenarios of biodiversity and governance of forest resources focused on the issue of offsetting schemes as drivers of change. These scenarios will be relevant to the local scale and will cover several decades, allowing stakeholders to take the medium and long term into account when drawing up their strategies.

Task 2.3. Exploring the Scenarios

Through workshops usually involving up to 20 stakeholders, the RPG developed in task 2.1 will be used to run simulations based on the sketches developed in the task 2.2. During these workshops, the research team will present the interested parties with decisions to take concerning the management and governance of forest resources and concerning offsetting mechanisms. The modeling of environmental impacts over time will then feed into discussions on desirable outcomes and plausible futures. Adaptation strategies developed by stakeholders in response to specific offsetting schemes will emerge on the basis of individual and collective decisions made by participants at the workshops and will be analyzed by sex, location, social and economic class.
